Computer terms important For CBSE Exams
Arithmetic Logic Unit
A part of the CPU that carries out all the arithmetic and logical operations.

Clicking
Pressing the left button of a mouse with the index finger and quickly releasing it.

Control unit
A part of the CPU which controls and directs the input, output and storage devices of a computer.

Dragging
Pressing the left mouse button and keeping it pressed, moving the
mouse on a mouse pad.

Data
Information fed to a computer.

Double - clicking
Pressing and releasing the left mouse button twice at a very short interval.

Floppy
A storage device which is used to store typed information or pictures.

Hardware
The parts of a computer that we can see and touch.

Icon
Small pictures which appear on the Windows Desktop.

Information
The processed form of data that we obtain as the final result.

Input
The data and instructions which are given to a computer.

Input device
The part of a computer which is used to give instructions.

Key
A button on a keyboard which is used type to something on a computer.

Keyboard
An input device which is used to type the data on a computer.

LOGO
A simple computer language that stands for Logic Oriented Graphic Oriented.
Memory unit
A part of the CPU which temporarily stores the data and information.

Monitor
An output device which displays the results given by the computer.

Mouse
An input device which is used to give instructions to a computer.

Mouse pointer
An arrow that moves on the monitor screen when we move the mouse on a mouse pad.

Operating system
A software which starts the compute and helps the user to operate the computer.

Output
The result given by a computer.

Polygon
A closed figure with three or more sides.

Printer
An output device which prints the result given by a computer.

Processing
The work done by the CPU.

Program
A group of instructions that instruct the computer how to do a certain
task.

Software
A set of programs that carry out a particular type of task.

Speaker
An output device which is used to hear sounds from the computer.

Storage device
A device which is used to store data and information.

VDU
The short form of Visual Display Unit which is popularly known as
monitor.

Windows desktop
The display that appears and remains on the monitor screen when the computer is started.

WordPad
A word processing software available in Windows.

Word processor
A software that allows us to work with text — words, sentences, paragraphs etc.
